Maple Street was an ordinary neighborhood, with tall oak trees and rows of cozy houses. But there was one house that was a little different—an old, creaky one at the very end of the street. It was known as the Maple Street Mystery House. Every Halloween, kids would dare each other to walk past it, their eyes wide with fear. They whispered about strange things happening there, but the strangest of all was the giggling ghost.
No one knew where the giggling came from, but late at night, if you listened closely, you could hear it—a light, mischievous laugh, like someone playing a trick. It wasn’t scary, exactly, but it was enough to send shivers down anyone’s spine.
One autumn afternoon, a curious girl named Lily moved into the neighborhood with her family. Unlike the other kids, Lily wasn’t easily scared. She loved adventure and mystery, and when she heard the stories about the giggling ghost, she was more excited than frightened. “A ghost that giggles?” she said, laughing to herself. “I have to meet this ghost!”
That night, Lily put on her warmest jacket, grabbed her flashlight, and headed down Maple Street. The wind rustled the leaves, and the moon cast eerie shadows on the pavement. As she approached the old house, she could feel her heart beating faster, but she reminded herself that she wasn’t afraid.
She stepped up to the front gate, which squeaked loudly as she pushed it open. The house loomed before her, dark and quiet—until she heard it.
“Hee-hee-hee!”
The giggling ghost! Lily’s eyes widened, and without thinking, she called out, “Hello? Is someone there?”
For a moment, there was silence, and then—hee-hee-hee!—the giggling echoed again, louder this time, from inside the house.
Determined, Lily walked up to the front door and gave it a gentle push. To her surprise, it swung open with ease, revealing a dimly lit hallway. She tiptoed inside, her flashlight casting long shadows on the walls. “I’m not scared,” she whispered to herself. “I’m just curious.”
As she moved through the house, the giggling grew closer, until finally, she reached a small room at the top of the stairs. The door creaked as she opened it, and there, floating in the middle of the room, was the ghost.
But this ghost wasn’t scary at all. It was small and round, with big, sparkling eyes and a mischievous smile. It giggled again, doing a little twirl in the air as it spotted Lily.
Lily couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re not scary at all!” she said.
The ghost floated down and hovered next to her, still giggling. “I’ve been trying to make friends for years, but everyone’s too scared of me!” it said with a playful grin.
“Well, you’ve got one now,” Lily replied, smiling back.
From that night on, Lily and the giggling ghost became the best of friends. The other kids on Maple Street were still too scared to go near the old house, but Lily knew the truth—inside was the friendliest, funniest ghost she had ever met.
